How to use a VPN
There are many Cross Gene related activities that you will need a VPN for. Several things that a VPN can help you do include
- Stream shows that are geoblocked (ie: Shin kun no Yoru no Chuusday)
- See Region blocked videos (ie: Love & Peace official MV)
- Help trend Cross Gene events in Korea
- And importantly – Help with voting when IP is recorded.
I use and recommend SoftEther VPN with the VPNGate plugin. You can download that Here. Use the link that says Download SoftEther VPN Client + VPN Gate Client Plugin.
The plug in does all the hardwork of adding a VPN server list to your client.
Once booted it will look like this.
You wont have the client adapter yet tho, it will install that when you first connect.
Double click the VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers and another window will pop up.
Most of them are Japan or Korea so this really works out well for us. For Yoru no Chuusday you need a certain area VPN, not all of them will be in the right area but try playing anyway.
They are ordered by best response so click the first one that suits your needs and you will get another pop up.
I have had way more success using UDP protocol but that probably just because of my godawful connection. If you are finding none of them are connecting on TCP it might pay to switch. There is no risk to your pc by changing, its just how the data is sent.
You may get a pop up at some point with really scary sounding non liability stuff for the uni that manages the plug in, again accepting is just for their security. I’ve been using this for a while and all is well lol.
Also you will get a pop up as it sets up the adapter. This will only happen the first time.
Then it will go through the connection, you will get a pop up saying you have been assigned an IP and then you will get the sidebar asking if you want to share with this network. Say no to that one.
Then refresh your page to make sure its working and ta da, you are now displaying a different IP address online.
